Garage house renovation by SHED Architecture

Besides, it features a faceted ceiling to guide warm air to the triangular vent window for passive ventilation. SHED’s way to the architecture is very nice and practical and they managed to get a contemporary living space that is similar to studio apartments from the garage. It isn’t very nice to live in a garage but when the garage is renovated by Seattle-based SHED Architecture & Design that isn’t true at all. The 320-square-foot garage conversion is full of space saving solutions used throughout: a support beam functions as a kitchen pot rack, a bookshelf is tucked in the interior eaves, and so on.

The color theme there is quite neutral and consists gray, silver, blue and white colors. In order to make the open space more comfortable for living, the bedroom is divided by a panel which lets the light in. The kitchen which is also located in this open space also includes laundry appliances. The apartment is an amazing example of how careful planning could make the interior look great even without excluding any needed furniture. This loft style apartment has only 48 square meter of total area but accommodates everything people need to live comfortably. Its interior decor is elegant yet simple. It looks quite modern and thoughtful. The apartment is a single open space without any divisions and almost without space separators. Thanks to that it looks bigger than it is. The living room, dinning room, kitchen and bedroom are full of great decorating solutions for small spaces.

Powerful Interior Design Based on Pattern and Color

Who says you need elaborate faux ornamentation or ostentatious luxury furniture to make an interior design unique and amazing? Not only does a focus on coloring and patterning a space save money but it can make at least as much of a statement as most furniture-centric interior designs.

With little of the traditional interior decoration left from this 1800s apartment space, they were forced to use outside inspiration to fill in what had become a rather dull and plain set of rooms.

Stark white furniture was used through as a way to set it apart from the brightly-colored floors and walls, keeping the design from becoming too busy and emphasizing the distinction between object and context.

While the patterns at any one location might seem playful and random there is a very rigorous overall pattern to the colors used from one space to the next, creating a series of complex spatial sequences that were planned from the outset.

This fascinating experiment with transforming interior spaces includes a steam room, home cinema and many other high-end amenities not found in most living spaces of comparable seize. A series of sliding walls contain spaces within them but also hide drawers, shelves and other useful storage places for DVDs, CDs and other objects that normally displace interior space. In short: they define space as walls but also double as doors and dividers.

Fold-down desks and other fold-out design elements are another essential part of his space-saving strategy, converting empty space into seating, surfaces and beds as needed. Instead of using valuable wall space for his big-screen TV, the designer put the moving screen over an existing window to give that limited square footage a dual purpose. Originally a cramped rental unit shared by Chang and his parents, he has since purchased this property in order to develop it into a transforming dream home.

Small Space Living + Giant Interior Design & Decor Ideas

small white apartment design
Living with small apartment square-footage or a cramped condo layout does not have to mean thinking small about constructing and decorating your space, as illustrated by glacier-inspired interior design idea. Contemporary and classy at a glance, modern in color and material, this remodeled apartment is clearly cool in more ways than one - and the back-lit white surfaces do almost seem like sheets of ice between a resident and the outside world.

More than simply tying the spaces together visually, the use of these tiered forms and layered structures makes for a surprisingly dynamic and customizable living experience - nooks and crannies are spread around for seating purposes and as storage niches. The visual complexity of the entire composition makes for an ever-changing interior landscape where the decor is inherent in the architecture itself and the once small-seeming space becomes a larger place for all kinds of interaction. The entry area, living room, kitchen, dining, bedroom and even the bathroom become an amorphous collection of spaces strung together that can be closed off or left open to connect the entire interior design.

Small Apartment Design + Dramatic Interior Decorating =

futuristic modern apartment interior
Pop Art meets Modernism meets Minimalism in this remarkable small apartment design, at once unified through a common theme of curves but still exceedingly eclectic in the set of colors, shapes and lights that vary throughout. One could imagine anyone from a 1920s mob boss to a 1940s film noir star or even a 1980s pop rock celebrity feeling right at home in this unusual series of interior spaces.
futuristic strange apartment design
The architects of A.A. Studio were able to visit before construction of the interior room partitions were finished. They were inspired by the small space despite (or perhaps because) of its limited layout, the unusual sizes of structural beams and uncomfortably low ceilings - the architectural results of their inspection were (as these photos show) surprising, strange, sublime and surreal.

Instead of reacting against these spatial limitations, they played with exaggerating and transforming them using subtle lighting strategies but also cheap-but-effective construction tricks - like a plywood panel cut-out over the hallway bookcases.

Except for the splashes of patterned light and ominous colors that emerge from some of the lamps, there is very little in the living room area of this apartment by way of decor. A small Pop Art panel above the bed and colorfully faced cabinets give the bedroom and bathroom, respectively, a sense of being something else while still fitting them somehow within the overall visual themes of the entire set of rooms.

Redesign, Remodel, Recycle: Rustic Modern Home Interior

rustic modern interior
Just like some artists upcycle discarded materials, some architects recycle unused spaces. The key, of course, in remodeling a historic home, condo or apartment (in this case) rich in variegated materials and classic construction elements is knowing what to add, what to remove and what to leave as it is - particularly when faced with wide-open spaces that must be separated into livable rooms.
rustic interior design remodel
In this redesign, old is clearly different from new and yet there is a complex and lively interaction between the added white partitions, wood surfaces and modern furniture and the existing unfinished walls, exposed bricks and concrete ceilings. A simple 'white cross' was added in the center to provide room for contemporary kitchen and bathroom spaces and create a kind of light box to illuminate the rest of the residence.

The small-scale pieces of wood paneling that wrap around the foot of the walls (and up it at points) mimic the tight-knit grid of rustic brick, aged-looked wall art art likewise ties together the paint-chipped structural ceiling vaults and raw plaster, fading wallpaper and rough stonework left as-is or simply varnished around the home.

Minimalist (Re)Model: Modern Warehouse Loft Apartment

Forget additions, think: subtractions. Interior design is often thought of as a completely additive process - a start-to-finish creative intervention or method for remodeling an old space into something fresh, modern and entirely new. Designers took different approach to this peculiar interior, adding only what was necessary to make a place livable while subtracting elements to reveal the intrinsic aesthetic traces of aged spaces.

As a result of this unique inverted design process, what was once run-down company housing - and originally envisioned to become fully-modernized luxury apartments - instead turned into something distinctly attractive to potential renters, blending aged elements of the existing spaces with only the most minimal requirements for modern living.

Thus, using fewer materials, a limited budget for materials and the current condition of these condos, Schemata managed to create something contemporary that appeals to a demographic of creative individuals seeking to live in one-of-a-kind spaces. They look great in photos, but really: who wants to live in boring modernist box?

Industrial Interior: Intense Modern Metal Apartment Design

industrial metal interior design
Russian, raw and radical, this apartment design in Moscow may seem cold to some but also seems curiously cozy despite (or because) of the repetitive use of industrial materials for everything from the steel walls, windows, doors and floors down to the built-in corrugated room dividers, flat glass table surfaces and other furniture and furnishings.

Metal corrugation, visible welds and exposed rivets break up what might otherwise be an overly harsh minimalist series of spaces. These and other details bring a smaller scale to large planes of single materials and undifferentiated surfaces all around.

The finished remodel has little by way of traditional decoration - instead, material qualities that were a natural part of the construction process and materials chosen became the core elements of style and decor in the final project. Whether or not the gray, black, beige and silver color scheme or minimalist style are for you, there is nonetheless a compelling consistency to this complete top-to-bottom industrial redesign.

Modest Modern Living: Laid-Back Luxury Loft Space Design

Modest does not have to mean cheap or small, nor does luxury necessarily entail expensive or excessive. Somewhere in the middle sit apartment and condo spaces like this one - large, clean and modern yet still simple, elemental and affordable.

Once inside, inexpensive plywood panels and hardwood floors serve as variegated accents against a plain backdrop of white-painted walls and ceilings. Likewise white-and-wood themed furniture decorates the place and ties these core materials together without seeming over-the-top (or costing a small fortune).
